Master Bathroom & Kitchen Remodel

Having never gone through a major renovation before, meeting with a general contractor filled us with anxiety. These nerves quickly turned to excitement as we spoke with Erin and Vince from Distinctive Design / Build / Remodel. The plans as presented by Erin brought our visions of a new master bath and kitchen to life! In turn, Vince was able to explain the construction process in logical stages which set out expectations regarding process, inspections, and overall time to completion.

Outdoor Living Space

We bought our home on the shores of Lake Norman several years ago. This past summer, it was finally time to expand our small, worn-out porch overlooking the lake. We initially hired a landscaper to help us create the outdoor living space we craved but we soon realized we needed an experienced General Contractor and remodeling pro to help guide us through the process of not only getting permits to build out a deck but also removing several structural columns holding up the back of our house.

Our goal was to make the backyard more accessible, to make the porch larger with an expanded deck and a built-in hot tub, and to create an unobstructed view of the lake. Thankfully, we found Distinctive Design / Build / Remodel and they helped guide us through the design and construction of our outdoor living space which has become a favorite gathering spot for friends and family.

We had plenty of challenges to overcome. Most of them had to do with getting approval to build the deck and take down the load-bearing columns. But Vince, the General Contractor and one of the owners of Distinctive Design / Build / Remodel, was very good at helping us navigate that process. Because our house is on a septic system, and it’s in close proximity to the lake, there were several hoops Vince had to jump through to secure a building permit. He also took care of all the engineering required to safely remove four columns on our back porch. What we ended up with is just a wide, open, beautiful area that brings the view of the lake right into our home.

Distinctive Design / Build / Remodel was great – not only with the work that was done but also in getting the design right and helping us configure the deck and built-in hot tub. Because of their knowledge and experience, they were able to come up with a strategy for us to get rid of as many railings as we possibly could while still meeting code. This required careful planning and attention to detail as well as coordination with the landscaper. It was like putting together a large puzzle and every piece had to fit just right.

Vince and his team were very creative. But, also, just as important – they were great craftsmen. The work was done very well. The jobsite was very clean at the end of every day. Professional – that’s the word I would use to describe Distinctive Design / Build / Remodel.

From beginning to end, Vince put us at ease, listened to what it was we wanted to achieve, and helped us overcome every obstacle quickly and efficiently. Early on, we told Vince we wanted a low-maintenance deck and he recommending products like the Fiberon deck boards which are a composite made from recycled materials. Instead of spending time and money sanding, staining or painting our deck – we will simply be able to enjoy it for years to come with no worries. That makes me very happy!

Kitchen Remodel

We would like to take this opportunity to share our experience with Distinctive Design / Build / Remodel during our kitchen remodel project. We purchased our home in 2006. From the first we felt the kitchen space was not our idea of a great kitchen. We discussed, for years, the idea of a remodel and we finally decided to move forward with a plan for a complete redesign.

Distinctive Design came highly recommended. We had a list of a number of redesign companies and began calling them for an evaluation. Erin and Vince were the first to come to see us and we were so impressed by their professionalism that we decided to go with Distinctive Design / Build / Remodel.

Erin and Vince met with us, at our home on a number of occasions, and guided us through the entire design process through which our concepts could be made real. The process was much more complex than we anticipated but Erin and Vince’s design and construction management expertise was invaluable in assisting us toward the development of the ideal kitchen.

We had some thoughts of what we wanted but Erin provided us with an extensive range of design possibilities and resources that made us realize that our new kitchen could far exceed our initial concept. Everything from layout to architectural enhancements as well as supplier availability was considered and discussed at length. Her aesthetic sense was invaluable in producing a kitchen that we would love. We were presented with detailed drawings and renderings that allowed us to see where we were going. At every step of the process, Erin was immediately available to provide answers and guidance.

We had a lot of questions concerning the construction phase. How long was it going to take? How much disruption to our lives and home, how much dust and dirt? Vince laid out the entire process, in detail, for us. He addressed every one of our concerns as well as some we never considered. The entire project, and each individual step was accompanied by a timeline that was rigidly adhered to so that we knew, every day down to the hour, where we were in the process and where we were going.

Any question we asked was answered with a thorough explanation and on occasion, a demonstration. No issue was too small to address. We learned quite a lot about the science and application of the building process. His supervision and management of the contractors was superb. His complete professionalism was demonstrated time and time again. He also has a great sense of humor which went a long way in easing our anxiety.

For Elizabeth and I this was, by far, the largest and most complex home project we ever entertained. Distinctive Design / Build / Remodel was the perfect choice as witnessed by the final result. A beautiful kitchen that is everything we could have hoped for. We highly recommend Distinctive Design / Build / Remodel to anyone who desires a company who will guide you from concept to realization of your idea of the perfect home.

Whole House Remodel

From the beginning I knew this remodeling project would be different than others. My wife and I have remodeled our home and our commercial building. Multiple Remodeling Projects

We live in an older house (circa 1930) and this renovation was pretty complicated (structural changes, complete rewire of the house, etc.). Even the demolition was difficult. Distinctive Design / Build / Remodel, LLC did a great job throughout the 7 month project. They never said "no" to anything, and were never rattled by any of the quirky things you find when renovating an older home. They just figured it out and kept going. Their subs were fantastic.

Kitchen Remodel

From the initial contact, we have thoroughly enjoyed the entire process of this remodel. Vince and his crew were EXCELLENT in their follow-up and meeting with us to design our new kitchen. He worked with us to keep some of the existing cabinetry and listened to our ideas on what we desired for a unique and one-of-a-kind granite table and island area. Room Addition

You always hear horror stories about people who have had issues with work being done on their home. From estimates for work that sometimes go over the amount first agreed to, or issues with shoddy work, or contractors that take weeks to get the job completed. None of these problems was an issue for us with Distinctive Design / Build / Remodel. We contracted with them for an addition on our home.

Erin was very professional and offered advice and insight on our project. The contract was well written and specifically stated the work that was to be done. This kept the budget intact. Vince was very much into making sure our project was done right with no issues and on a timeline set forth in the contract. He also explained every detail on the project - whether or not we asked about it. Their team of contractors was devoted on getting the job done and cleaned up after their work was done each day. Would I contract with them again to do work on my home? In a heart beat!

Room Addition

We wanted to convert a two-story family room to a single level family room with a 2nd floor playroom. Every other contractor had told us that we would need columns to support the second floor. Vince assured us that this was not needed and I was able to see his work on a friend's house where he had done the similar job. They put in a new 2nd floor for the playroom, converted 2 side windows to working windows, and added an "L shaped" closet with double pocket doors in the playroom, as well as recessed lighting and 2 vents for the new room. The end result was just what we were looking for. I was very pleased with Vince's work and would recommend him to others.

Covered Screened Porch

Our back deck was old, in full afternoon sun, and mosquitoes made it nearly impossible to enjoy. I wanted shade, comfort, and protection from the mosquitoes. Working with Distinctive Design & Build was a pleasure from the very start.
